ABOUT

MY NAME IS STEVEN MCDONALD

I am a trained Performing Arts Professional from Edinburgh, having qualified in Speech, Drama, Performing Arts and Directing and Devising. For 30 years I have been a performing musician, songwriter and, more recently, a music teacher.

In addition, as a member of Spotlight, I have gained many years’ experience in the wider performing arts scene, working as an actor on both stage and screen, in voice acting, directing, writing and providing coaching to other actors.

I’m an experienced property solicitor with a special interest in helping performing artists with their legal needs. As an Equity member I have access to information that non-Equity members do not, enabling me to use that specialist knowledge on their behalf.

Tallboy Performing Arts allows me to bring this wealth of experience to new audiences, providing services for clients who are ‘Performing for Business’ and ‘Performing for Pleasure’

TESTIMONIALS

Another brilliant student, now working professionally in the performing arts! Congratulations to our super talented Steven, for gaining the job of assistant director to John Mitchell this term and Marion Geoffrey last term as well as all his other accomplishments outside the school. Steven started in our vocational performing courses before gaining a place on the ACTING DIPLOMA in 2016. In 2017 he transitioned into the DIRECTING DIPLOMA and excelled in all his classes! He gained professional work inside and outside Acting Out Drama School and is now well on his way to a promising performing arts career, with a mixture of acting, singing and directing. He is brilliant to work with and we highly recommend him!! Scotland... a new director has just emerged on the scene!!

Clare Cairns,  Acting Out Drama School

Steven is an attentive, disciplined actor. Though we only shared a small time together on the set of ‘The Gurney’, I found Steven an absolute joy to work with. It was clear from our conversations that Steven has a deep love for his craft and was eager to learn more about the relationship between the actor and the camera.

Glenn O’Faoilean,   Filmmaker

Absolute pleasure to have on set and be around. Incredibly talented man.

Chelsea Grace,   Actor

Steve was brilliant to work with. Very reliable in communication and turning up on time on set. He learned his lines promptly and is very professional on set. A joy to work with.

Paul Davidson,   Filmmaker

Steven was not only a remarkable actor, but a great personality to have on set...can’t recommend him enough.

Carey Osborne, Filmmaker  Filmmaker

I have worked with Steve on a couple of projects, and both times he has been punctual, professional, and great to work with. He is willing to try different things when working on a role, and directing him is often an enjoyable and fruitful back and forth, with the end result speaking for itself on screen.

Sean Hall,  Filmmaker

From the audition to the final day of shooting Steve was fully committed to the film. Even when we had some complications on set, Steve didn’t complain one bit and would help out if necessary. Completely brought life to the role, took direction well and would absolutely work with him again!

Ella Rose Howlett,   Filmmaker

I've had the pleasure of working with Steve twice now in the last 2 years. He is very professional on set and an absolute joy to work with. I found that he brought something very different and interesting to each role he played.

The first film I worked with Steve on was a film that I wrote called 'Kin'. Steven’s role was difficult to cast as it was a character with early-onset Alzheimer's. It took me a while to find the right person for the role and Steve was perfect.

His performance was compelling and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

It was a pleasure to work with him again a year later where he played a medieval priest in 'Sacrament', a short comedy that I produced.

I would love to work with him again in the future and look forward to seeing him further progress in his promising career as an actor.

Catherine Cairney,  Writer and Producer

Worked with Steven a few times, and most recently on my own film. Very nice guy and great actor. Hope to work you with him again sometime.

David Penman,  Filmmaker

I had the opportunity to work with Steven on my short film ‘Red Card’. He captured exactly what I was looking for in the role and was very professional throughout the whole shoot. It was a pleasure to have him on the shoot and I will definitely work with Steven again in the future!

Tips For The Wookie Speaker

Wookie Mistakes I saw a post on The Ultimate 80s Page on Facebook which had the above picture of Chewbacca and it made me think of a recurring issue I come across when I carry out presentation skills training. It is that sometimes people look like they want to get...
